Dear Colleague,
By 2014, growth of 3,000 jobs is expected in Scotland’s creative and cultural sectors, more than half of which will require higher skills. Creative Scotland will commence in April 2010, and the Scottish government has also published ‘Skills for Scotland’, which reinforces the role of SSCs working in partnership with stakeholders in tackling Scotland’s skills challenges.
The Inaugural Scottish Creative Economy Conference, held in partnership with Creative & Cultural Skills, Skillset and the Cultural Enterprise Office (CEO), is an opportunity to share national policy and local good practice designed to boost Scotland’s creative economy, and reinforce its position as a world-leader in the creative and cultural sectors.
Key speakers include:
• Ken Hay, Chief Executive, Scottish Screen and Creative Industries Lead for Creative Scotland
• Alasdair Smith, Strategic Relationship Manager - Creative Industries,
Skills Development Scotland (SDS)
• Caroline Parkinson, Director, Scotland and Northern Ireland, Creative & Cultural Skills
• Prof. Malcolm Foley, Dean of Faculty of Business and Creative Industries,
University of the West of Scotland
Delegates at this conference will:
• Learn about the challenges facing the expanding creative sector in Scotland in terms of skills development and positioning in local economies
• Pinpoint where lie opportunities for further sustainable growth of the sector, and what local and central government can do to support it
• Learn how HE and FE institutions can build on their strengths in the development of creative and cultural talent, and play an active role in emerging local economic hubs
